New Facebook app connects customers to operators

New Facebook app connects customers to operators

Nokia Siemens Networks has launched a Facebook app that operators can use to allow people to personally manage their fixed and mobile telecom services. The new app enables customers to check their balance, browse and buy special offers and subscribe to services. In addition, customers can share their experience across their social network and get rewards for recommending services to friends. The app aims to offer an improved service by allowing operators to engage with customers where they spend their time online.

Rick Centeno, Head, Business Support systems (BSS), Nokia Siemens Networks said, "The beauty of the Facebook app is that it engages with people on their preferred social networking site. People spend more time on social networks than individual websites. With this Facebook app, Nokia Siemens Networks helps operators to connect with people in a familiar setting where they already spend their online time. It takes self-care to a new level."

Teresa Cottam, Research Director & Founder, Telesperience said, "Nokia Siemens Networks is presenting a refreshing end-to-end vision of how CSPs can better meet their customers' needs through self-care, while also reducing their costs and becoming more commercially agile. We've seen other companies articulate parts of this vision, but few others - if indeed any others - can deliver this in its entirety today."

For operators that deliver a superior customer service, Nokia Siemens Networks' Facebook app can amplify and publicize genuine leadership. People who share their experiences with friends, and also recommend services, can benefit from special rates and incentives from operators. Friends benefit from recommendations that help them to evaluate which service package will best suit their needs. The app can also provide instant access to account information such as prepaid and postpaid balance, recent call duration, cost and contact details - all within the familiar Facebook site.

The application enhances Nokia Siemens Networks' range of self-care portals - share@once - that facilitate direct interaction between operators and customers. The new Facebook app complements a mobile self-care app for smartphones and a web-based self-care portal that can already provide a simpler way to manage telecom services.

All three share@once self-care portals - for Facebook, smartphones and the web - are based on Nokia Siemens Networks' modular and scalable charge@once unified platform. The platform provides a unified view for operators of special offers, and charging and billing for all types of voice and data services in all networks, independent of whether it is a prepaid or postpaid scheme. By providing different types of self-care portals, and a new opportunity for operators to interact with customers, share@once enhances Nokia Siemens Networks' Customer Experience Management (CEM) portfolio. CEM provides insight into the factors affecting a customers' experience to define and automate specific actions to make it better.

According to the report, "Threats are focusing on installing targeted malicious executables onto user PCs, which use advanced techniques to avoid detection and use botnet delivery mechanisms to perform multistage attacks. Simply stopping attacks that are looking for unpatched servers is no longer sufficient in this environment.  which use advanced techniques to avoid detection and use botnet delivery mechanisms to perform multistage attacks. Simply stopping attacks that are looking for unpatched servers is no longer sufficient in this environment."

Greg Young. Gartner Research said, "Gartner uses the term 'next-generation network IPS' to indicate the necessary evolution of network IPS to deal with changes in network communications and applications and changes in the threat landscape. As a minimum, a next-gen IPS will have standard first-generation IPS capabilities plus application awareness, context awareness, content awareness especially providing full stack inspection."

The McAfee network security framework includes the following aspects: Advanced Network IPS; Application awareness and control; Predictive threat intelligence; Context-aware security; and Content analysis.

Steve Shillingford, President & CEO, Solera Networks said, "To fully understand and eradicate targeted attacks, you need complete visibility of all network traffic, its source and scope, and whether it occurred days, weeks, or months in the past. McAfee Network Security Platform's integration with Solera's DeepSee applications delivers a seamless workflow to security analysts taking you from an alert to irrefutable evidence of the attack, breach or threat, dramatically reducing the time it takes to pinpoint compromises."

By incorporating application visibility, external reputation data, behavior-based threat analysis and advanced malware detection workflows into a single solution, McAfee network security framework delivers next-generation network IPS that allow organizations to streamline security operations while dramatically reducing exposure to new attack types.

Oracle announced Sun ZFS Storage Appliances

Oracle announced Sun ZFS Storage Appliances

Oracle has announced its third-generation Sun ZFS Storage Appliances, which offer enterprise NAS functionality, and best-in-class performance, efficiency, data integrity and integration with Oracle software. Demonstrating definitive performance leadership in the NAS market, Oracle's Sun ZFS Storage 7420 Appliance delivered 2x the performance at less than half the cost per SPC-1 IOPS of NetApp's FAS 3270A on the SPC-1 benchmark.

Oracle's third-generation Sun ZFS Storage Appliances include significant enhancements to its industry-leading Hybrid Storage Pool technology which accelerates IOPS performance and enables customers to maintain optimal performance under heavy utilization.

With Hybrid Columnar Compression support for Oracle's Sun ZFS Storage Appliances, customers using Oracle's NAS systems to manage the lifecycle of data using in-database archiving for OLTP databases and data warehouses will be able to increase storage efficiency by 10x to 50x for most datasets, and reduce capital and operating expenses.  The only NAS product engineered together with Oracle software, the Sun ZFS Storage Appliance is integrated with Oracle Applications, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle Database, and is optimized for Oracle VM and the Oracle Exadata Database Machine.

The Sun ZFS Storage Appliance product line combines an innovative architecture, breakthrough storage analytics and best-in-class management to deliver maximum value to NAS customers. Oracle's Sun ZFS Storage Appliance storage analytics enable users to pinpoint and resolve storage bottlenecks up to twice as fast as NetApp, reducing storage administration costs by up to 36 percent, according to third-party analysis by the Edison Group, documented in "Gaining Business Advantage Through Storage Management Efficiency with Oracle's Sun ZFS Storage Appliance."

"Oracle is changing the dynamics of the NAS market in a single step, giving enterprise customers a quantum leap in achievable performance and efficiency. Third generation software, third generation disk drives, and unique Oracle integration like Hybrid Columnar Compression on the Sun ZFS Storage Appliance enable Oracle storage customers to achieve business results and reduce cost at levels other NAS solutions can’t match," said John Fowler, executive vice president, Systems, Oracle.

"The extreme performance in our SPC-1 results was driven by Oracle's innovative Hybrid Storage Pool architecture and demonstrates the power of integrated hardware and software. Deep integration between Oracle Solaris, ZFS and our patented automated tiering software helps eliminate performance bottlenecks and makes the ZFS Storage Appliance the clear choice for enterprise-class NAS," said Phil Bullinger, senior VP, Storage, Oracle.

In addition to capacity-optimized disk drives, Oracle's latest Sun ZFS Storage Appliances also feature 15,000 RPM SAS-2 drives with 300GB and 600GB capacity, which accelerate non-cached reads and high-volume synchronous writes and enable customers to run both databases and applications that stream large amounts of data faster and with fewer resources.
