Crucial Components any Uninterruptible Power Supplies Comprise off

Uninterruptible Power Supplies are considered to be extremely important as far as the aspect of ensuring continuity of operations in any establishment is concerned. Extremely significant, all uninterruptible supplies at the end of the day help provide protection to expensive electronic gadgets and equipment against any sort of interruption in power supply. But that's the easy part wherein we have somehow got ourselves acquainted with the working mechanism of uninterruptible power supplies.

However, have we ever tried to go beyond the obvious and tried to get knowledge of the components which really make all Uninterruptible Power Supplies into what they really are. If not then it's about time to do so.

Components making up Uninterruptible Power Supplies

There are a number of components which primarily go into the making of a UPS. These components end up comprising of:

Charger: In a majority of UPS systems, the nature of the design calls in the need for using a separate battery charger. This piece of equipment is common on sub 60kVA UPS systems as well as sub 3kVA units.

Rectifier: As a component, it is responsible for converting an incoming Alternating Current (AC) supply to Direct Current (DC) and provides a charging current for the battery as well as supply requirements of the inverter.

Battery: Better known as the power storage section, it is kept charged either by the rectifier or a separate charger. The overall storage capacity is generally displayed, as AH (ampere hour), which again is the number of amperes of current that a battery can supply for an hour.

Inverter: As an important component of Uninterruptible Power Supplies, it is responsible for providing an AC output to the load which is in phase with the input mains supply. Moreover, considering the number of conversions (ac to dc to ac) and the filtering involved it can be termed as a ‘clean supply'.

Static Switch: By using thyristors a static switch, transfers the load between the inverter and the utility mains supply. The output of the inverter is in phase with the utility mains supply so that switching between the two components is virtually seamless.

The fore mentioned components are truly considered to be the life and blood of Uninterruptible Power Supplies. And somehow without these components, all Uninterruptible Power Supplies may be unsuccessful in delivering the results expected of them.
