Check Golf Cart Batteries on a Regular Basis

Batteries are the soul of any electric vehicles. If there is any problem of batteries, your electric golf cart can't move any more. Of course, you can't wish this happens on the golf course. Who wants that? Nobody.. So we need to do some measures to avoid this trouble. The best way is to maintain the golf cart batteries on a regular basis to prolong the life. But how should you do that? In this article, the author will tell you the detailed methods.

In fact, it is very easy to give these batteries some well maintenance. The only thing you need to do is just to check the golf cart batteries on a regular basis and maintain them at the same time. But before you do that, you first ensure the availability of utility accessories like acid proof gloves, a good adjustable wrench, anti-corrosion gel, baking soda, distilled water and post cleaner. Choose a well ventilated place for charging operations and avoid smoking there. Battery charging generally causes hydrogen emissions. Hydrogen concentration and accumulation can cause explosions. Hydrogen detectors can be used to ensure safety. Exposure of battery plates to air or addition of acid to battery could prove dangerous. Make sure that the batteries are properly connected to the steed.

First examine the battery terminals to see if they were securely connected and clean. Check and replace vent caps in case of damage and tighten them. Clean the external surfaces of the batteries with a mixture of baking soda and water. Besides cleaning the acid spills, the solution can neutralize also. Always wear acid resistant gloves while charging the batteries because the acid will hurt you if it contacts you. Make sure that the area near the golf cart batteries is dry and clean at charging time.

Next use a battery tester to check the water level in the battery. If the water level was low, add some distilled water for a prolonged life. Don't overfill it or it may hurt you. Then examine the outside case on the battery for signs that there may have been battery acid leaking onto the battery. Check for any cracks or leaks in the container. A leaking battery could be potentially dangerous while charging.

After every recharge, check and maintain the water level in every cell as charging may cause water evaporation. And check the connectors after every charge and tighten them properly. When you don't intent using the golf cart batteries for long, they should fully be charged and stored after disconnecting from the charger. Check the batteries every four weeks, and charge them again fully, then store after disconnecting from the charger. Batteries should never be connecting to the charger during the long periods of storage. Stand loss discharge is a condition that causes rapid self discharge of the batteries, particularly in warmer weather when not charged properly. Choose the tight temperature to store the charged batteries for longer life. Keep the batteries clean and in good condition, with full charge are the basic prerequisites for longer survivability of the golf cart batteries during winter storage time.

Either way, using the golf cart batteries or storing them is still required to check and maintain to prolong the life. Hence, it is very important for the persons who have electric golf carts to know these key factors. From the appearance, it seems a little difficult but in fact, it is very easy only if you know the operation principle.
