Servo Control System— An Essential for the Manufacturing Industry

It will not be wrong to say that the whole economy of the world depends upon servo controllers. This is because any economy depends upon the manufacturing industry and this industry would cease to exist without a robust servo control system. It would be impossible to control and manage factory production lines without a servo system. In fact, wherever there is an electric motor there would be a servo control system to monitor it. It is one of the most widely used control system in today's mechanized world. Any equipment or a machine having rotating parts has a servo system.

A servo control system functions in two ways. It regulates the motor by maintaining a consistent speed within the motor limits even while the load output of the motor varies. It also tracks by varying the speed of a motor and load according to a specified set of values or programs.

A servo system with the help of an electronic amplifier transforms smaller mechanical operations to more powerful ones. The aim is to increase the productivity or highly complex machines and increase their efficiency. We will now glance through some of the advantages of a servo control system.

A servo control system constantly monitors how well the machine is following the command. Based on the continuous feedback that it receives, it adjusts the motions and prevents the machine from deviating from the designed path thereby making it more effective and efficient. A servo system also combats all disturbance rejection characteristics thereby handling all possible problems that a machine may face. It also improves the machine productivity. Some servo control systems are so efficient that  they result in zero waste and zero delay.

A servo control system reduces the incidence of accidents. Since it supervises the overall precision of the machine it prevents it from malfunctioning which happen due to various reasons like incorrect evaluations of motor parameter or some torque disturbance in shaft. The closed loop servo system continuously enhances and improves the machine efficiency. The system operates on real-time feedback.

The greatest advantage derived by installing a servo control system is doing away with the shaft which is the key cause of machine downtime. It performs all the jobs that are done by a shaft like differential transmissions, change gear stations, clutch and brake units.

Servo system has come of age. Different types and makes of servo control systems are available in the market which are being used by industries involved in hi-tech automation.
