Panasonic SD-RD250 Automatic Bread Maker Review

Bread Makers have brought a whole new level of convenience to baking deliciously freshly baked bread at home. Gone are the days of spending the whole afternoon kneading, waiting and kneading, making bread manually.

One of the most highly regarded manufactures of bread makers – Panasonic, designed the Panasonic SD-RD250 Automatic Bread Maker to be both versatile and easy to use. With five baking modes, two loaf sizes, large LCD display, a non-stick coated pan and preset timer, the Panasonic SD-RD250 looks great on paper, but does it deliver satisfactory results when put into use? Read on further to find out.

Features of the Panasonic SD-RD250 Automatic Bread Maker

  • Microprocessor controlled
  • Five baking modes for two loaf sizes
  • Large LCD display with user-friendly menu options
  • Unique dispenser to automatically drop fruits or nuts into dough
  • Programmable timer, sets up to 13 hours in advance
  • Non-stick coated pan for easy cleaning

Programmable Timer

A new feature Panasonic have incorporated to their bread maker series is a 13-hour pre-set programmable timer, which is ideal for overnight baking, so you can set the machine before you go to bed and enjoy freshly baked bread for your breakfast.

Large LCD Display

The large LCD display on the unit is clear and easy to read. The menu system is very user-friendly with six easy touch buttons on the panel. There are options for five different modes of baking, these include; Basic, Pasta, French, Bake Only and Pizza Dough.

Fruit and Nut Dispenser

A fruit and nut dispenser is provided, which can store up to 5.29 ounces (150 grams) of fruits, nuts or raisins into the dough. This great feature ensures that the raisins are scattered evenly, instead of being clumped together or leaving bare sections. The dispenser can be removed from the bread maker for convenience so it can be cleaned between each use.

Bread Quality

The Panasonic SD-RD250 Automatic Bread Maker vibrates slightly during the kneading process, but fortunately it doesn't produce much noise. Preparing the machine only takes about five minutes before it begins the making process.

The quality of bread which it produces is nothing short of fantastic. The bread is crusty on the outer side, soft in the centre and creates a wonderful aroma. If you have a family of 4 or smaller, then the medium loaf size setting is adequate enough.

Final Thoughts

On the downside, if you have a preference for whole grain bread, then this machine doesn't bake it properly as it doesn't have a sandwich mode, so you will need to look elsewhere.

Overall, the Panasonic SD-RD250 is a great bread maker for either those who are new to bread machines or for more experienced users, who want high quality, healthy bread with minimum hassle. A very good guide is included which contains numerous recipes for making different types of breads, plus instructions on how to operate the machine. If having fresh homemade bread is something which you desire, then this smart machine is a smart choice.
